ERAs Senior Network is working to develop a program that will place AmeriCorps Encore Members (age 55+) in schools and nonprofit organizations to increase capacity and to deliver our mission.

What is AmeriCorps Encore?

AmeriCorps Encore engages citizens ages 55+ in in structured services in communities across America. AmeriCorps Encore members dedicate 300 hours over 16 weeks volunteering with a nonprofit, school, public agency, or community and faith-based organization. Often, AmeriCorps is tagged as the “Domestic Peace Corps”; and like the Military or the Peace Corps, it’s another form of service to our country.

What will our upcoming AmeriCorps Encore Programs look like?

We will be placing AmeriCorps Encore members in the following programs starting in September of 2018:
  • Coordination of reading programs or other school projects in Waukesha County School Districts with direction from ERAs staff
  • Coordinating and assisting Wisconsin Faith in Action Sites in providing critical services to seniors in their local area

How is this different than regular volunteers at ERAs?

Unlike our typical volunteer, AmeriCorps Encore members are enrolled in a national service program that connects all 50 states and engages over 80,000 members annually. Encore members commit upfront to serving a set amount of hours to our agency helping us build capacity in our programming. These members take on more responsibilities than our average volunteer by coordinating programs rather than providing direct services.

Why should you join?

AmeriCorps Encore Members are able to use their lifelong skills after retirement to give back to the community while staying active. Besides having a hands on impact in the lives of children, seniors, and other volunteers; members receive a living stipend, regular training, and are awarded an education award they are able to use themselves or pass along to family.
